OpenDC — a cloud that belongs to people, not shareholders

We believe the internet gets better when it lives in many small places — not in a few giant data centres of large corporations. That's why we run our servers in Tyrol, in our own containers, at a manageable location. Your website, your email, your data stay close to you — and the value creation stays in the region. That is OpenDC:hosting made in Tyrol.

Why this is different

  • Data close to you — processed and stored in Tyrol, not in a distant hyperscaler data centre.
  • No US corporation in the primary data path — we name the only exception openly: shop payments run via Stripe (EU).
  • Regionally anchored — operated by people on the ground you can reach, not a hotline on the other side of the world.
  • Step by step, together — the more locations join, the stronger the idea of a distributed community cloud becomes.

Where your data lives

We process and store your website's data on our own infrastructure in Tyrol. There isno US hyperscaler in the primary data path — no AWS, no Google Cloud, no Azure in between. Your content and your email run with us.

We name one exception openly: if you run a shop, payment runs throughStripe, an international payment provider with a US parent (settled through its EU entity). For a globally operating payment provider this is understandable and practically indispensable for online payments in Europe. We'd rather say it clearly than promise a "100% US-free" that isn't true.

Doubly secured: Tyrol & Switzerland

Your website runs in Tyrol — your backups are additionally held in Switzerland. Both are strong European data-protection locations without a US parent company. If something extraordinary ever happens in Tyrol (fire, long power outage, water damage), we restore your site from Switzerland. That's the classic 3-2-1 backup rule, spread across two secure jurisdictions — no single place can lose everything at once.

The location today

Our data centre is in Jenbach, Tyrol, and consists of two containers we operate in parallel as active hot zones. On top runs a production Kubernetes cluster with currently over 35 customer deployments — with reserve for significantly more without needing a new location. We run the cluster, the software and the maintenance ourselves; none of it is outsourced to a corporation.

The whole thing is led byRené Zingerle, CISSP and SSCP. Security here is not a marketing word, but daily practice.
