Community DC: a cloud that belongs to people, not shareholders

We believe the internet gets better when it lives in many small places instead of a few giant data centres owned by large corporations. That is why we run our servers in Tyrol, in our own containers, at a location you can take in at a glance. Your website, your email and your data stay close to you, and the value created stays in the region. That is Community DC: hosting made in Tyrol.

Why this is different

  • Data close to you. Processed and stored in Tyrol.
  • No US corporation in the primary data path. We name the one exception openly: shop payments run through Stripe (EU).
  • Rooted in the region. Run by one person on site whom you can reach.
  • Step by step, together. The more locations join, the stronger the idea of a distributed community cloud becomes.

Where your data lives

We process and store your website's data on our own infrastructure in Tyrol. There is no US hyperscaler in the primary data path, no AWS, no Google Cloud, no Azure. Your content and your email run with us.

We name one exception openly: if you run a shop, payment goes through Stripe, an international payment provider with a US parent (processed through its EU entity). For online payments in Europe such a provider is practically unavoidable. We would rather say that plainly than promise a "100 % US-free" that is not true.

Doubly secured: Tyrol and Switzerland

Your website runs in Tyrol, and your backups are held in Switzerland as well. Both are European data protection locations without a US parent company. Should something exceptional happen to us in Tyrol, such as a fire or a long power outage, we restore your site from Switzerland. That is the 3-2-1 backup rule, spread across two jurisdictions.

The location today

Our container data centre is in Tyrol. We built it ourselves and we run it ourselves: the Kubernetes cluster, the software and the maintenance. None of it is outsourced to a corporation. The build-out continues step by step, at the pace our customers carry.

Tagfalter, Managed Hosting and Community Sites are the products that carry this location. With every customer it grows a little, and with it the idea that data from Tyrol stays in Tyrol.
